Snippet sorting and open source

  • Sort snippets alphabetically or by creation date, with newest first. Textend remembers your choice.
  • Preview snippets with an empty sample clipboard by default.
  • Use copied file paths in Clipboard placeholders, including images copied from CleanShot when a file reference is available. Image-only clipboard contents without a file reference are not converted into files.
  • Keep Textend in true menu-bar-only mode when the Dock icon is disabled. This takes effect after restarting and avoids changing Dock mode when windows close.
  • Match the running Dock icon to your selected theme color. Finder and Spotlight retain the installed blue icon.
  • Improve the sort control’s alignment in the snippet-list header.

Textend’s source code is now available under the MIT license. Bug reports and feature requests are welcome; external code contributions are currently closed.

0.2.0

iCloud sync and cursor placement

  • Sync saved snippets, collections, favorites, and expansion preferences between Macs with optional iCloud sync. Enable it in Settings → iCloud. Changes remain available offline, and delivery may take a few minutes.
  • Place the caret inside expanded text using one {cursor} marker per template. Choose Insert Placeholder → Cursor Position to add it. The preview shows where typing will continue.
  • Keep Textend in the menu bar when its windows are closed. Turn off Always show Textend in the Dock in Settings → General; the Dock icon remains visible while a window is open.
  • Recognize Textend by its logo in the menu bar, and access the favorite control to the left of the snippet title.

Snippets with conflicting keywords are preserved but paused for automatic expansion until their keywords are made unique. Sync is off by default and requires a restart when enabled or disabled. Appearance and app preferences remain local to each Mac.

Caret positioning depends on the target app’s accessibility support. Copy Expanded Text copies the resolved text without repositioning the caret.

Requires macOS 14 or later. Supports Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
